Ingredients!
1 1/2 cups of basmati rice
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 (2 inch) piece of cinnamon stick
2 pods of green cardamom
2 whole cloves
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon of salt, or to taste
2 1/2 cups of water
1 small onion, cut into thin slices
Preparation!
Place the rice in a bowl with enough water to cover. Set aside to soak for 20 minutes.
Heat the oil in a large saucepan or saucepan over medium heat. Add the cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves and cumin seeds. Boil and stir for about a minute and then add the onion to the pot. Bake the onion until a rich golden brown color, about 10 minutes. Pour the water from the rice and stir in the pot. Cook and stir the rice for a few minutes, until lightly roasted. Add salt and water to the pan and bring to the boil. Cover and turn the heat down. Let simmer for about 15 minutes, or until all week before serving is absorbed. Let it stand for 5 minutes, and fluffy with a fork
